Good People,
Hop in this time machine with me a minute? i have something to share.
Dialing back to 2022– a lifetime ago.
2022 was a tipping point for this sack of bones. In all my positive attitude, persistence & clarity of path, there wasn’t enough energy in the body to fuel all that i was excited to release. It took to mid-2024 to feel like i could step outward, speak, connect anew. Injury, recovery & integrating takes the time it takes & man, did they test my patience! Sometimes i had FOMO about not being relevant or projects no longer being of interest to me but, if there is anything i am amused by in the creative process, it’s that we circle around the same questions throughout our life.
as i moved through 2024, those same questions continued to surface–
in the writing–
in the dreams–
in the asks from others–
on the meditation cushion–
it felt like a haunt & boy was i listening!
& i started to harvest & found memories of collaborations on grief & death with A Sacred Passing, Michelle Cassandra Johnson, alua arthur, Lama Rod Owens & Lion’s Roar.
i harvested & found things that were left undone & unreleased. i could hear my great-grandmother whispering you can’t take that with you to the grave (she was forever teaching me about impermanence). & even though i really don’t like to listen to myself on video, this couldn’t stay in a folder on the computer any longer. It feels like my past self talking to my current self & saying– let’s continue. So let’s continue this journey together.
This is from a 2-day offering called Somatic Grief for BIPOC. Since 2022, grief has gone from a trending word to a household name. Grief’s persistence (& at times drowning persistence) is calling to be reincorporated back into society. It is something we need not run from but, dare i say, play & become creative around. The possibility of play & creativity is the medicine i bring when working with grief ritual.
Throughout August i will be releasing the first 2 parts for all subscribers & the last part (Parts III & IV) for paid subscribers, which will include some additional information to speak to these times, in hopes it will offer a good base (or review) for us all to continue the work in community.
Part I is an introduction to somatic grief. Part II speaks to the grief considerations in the BIPOC community. Part III introduces ways you can work individually with grief & Part IV introduces considerations for collective healing.
& beyond, look for more shares, expansions & wisdoms. It’s time to unravel. Come play & please share with others & in the spaces you gather with others.
your companion on the lantern walk towards love.
